Q: Do I need a Visa?
A: No. US Citizens traveling in Guatemala for 90-days or less are not required to have a VISA. All travelers must have a valid passport with expiration being at least 6-months away. All non-US citizens/passport holders should check with their local embassay.
Q: Will I need a converter and/or adaptor?
A: No. Guatemala uses the same outlets and voltages as the US. However, most outlets are 2-hole flats. If any of your electronics require 3-holes, you will need an adaptor.
Q: Am I required to have any vaccinations for Guatemala?
A: There are no vaccinations required for entry to Guatelmala but short-term travelers are recommended, not required, to receive vaccination cover for Typhoid (food & water borne) Hepatitis A (food & water borne). As well as, Hepatitis B, Japanese Encephalitis, Malaria, Rabies and Yellow Fever.
Q: Where can I exchange money?
A: It is best you exchange money before leaving the US. Guatemalan Quetzal (GTQ) is the local currency, however, many shops, restaurants and tourist sites accept USD. There are various local currency exchanges in the city as well. You may also exchange your money at the Guatemala City airport.
Q: Do I need a towel?
A: Our accommodations will have towels, but if you prefer a specific one - please bring your own.
Q: What type of luggage should I bring?
A: We will be moving around quite a bit. We suggest you pack light. A traveling/camping backpack is always easiest to travel with, but not required. There are wonderful clothes and souvenirs you will want to fill your bags with for your family and friends, be sure to have some extra room.
Q: What essentials do I need?
A: Guatemala gets extremely hot and sunny. Be sure to bring ample amount of sun lotion for protection. Also, hydration powder, salts, sticks - these will be very helpful. Mosquitos are quite prominent as well. A strong anti-repellent is suggested.
Q: Will I be able to get last minute items I forgot?
A: Yes. Antigua is a large cosmopolitan city and every day toiletries, travel essentials and snacks and are readily available. If you like specific brands, we recommend you bring your own. Women hygiene products should be brought from home as well.
